On April 16th and 17th, 1917, the Russian regiments, under the command of General LOKHVITZKY, were transferred to the north of REIMS, at the foot of the massif of Saint-Thierry, to participate in the great offensive of General NIVELLE. The first Russian brigade had Objective to take the village of Courcy. After fierce fighting, the Russian soldiers showed great heroism, and carried out their mission by taking the village back to the German troops on April 16th 1917 and the following days, at the price of many killed and wounded. In April 2015, one Monument dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the expeditionary Russian Corps fallen in France during the Great War was erected in the heart of the commune.In this centenary year, the commune of Courcy, considering that it has a real debt of Memory of these men, wants to make known as widely as possible this particular part of its history and will commemorate the hundredth of this event on April 15, 16 and 17th, 2017. This project received the label of the national committee of the Centenary. The program of varied activities spread over 3 days, including commemorative ceremonies, moments of information, cultural shows and historic bivouac is being developed.
