Details :  Landed on Utah Beach barely a week after the beginning of the operations in Normandy, the division takes part in the liberation of Cherbourg, in North Cotentin. Before resuming the progression, this 79th GI poses for a photographer. Once the city is liberated, the unit will know the heavy fighting near la Haye-du-Puits before continuing its descent of the territory during the Operation Cobra at the end of July.
